Thank you for downloading the Image Express demonstration program. The following notes will help you install the software and ensure that you understand how to use the application.
Having extracted the file that you downloaded, you should now have a folder on you computer called IE Pro 2.17 Demo ƒ. This folder contains all you need to run Image Express Demo.
Pre-Start Check
Before you start the application, first check the memory allocated to Image Express. To do this, open the IE Pro 2.17 Demo folder and click on the IE Pro 2.17 Demo icon. The “Memory Requirements” settings should read Minimum: 4000K, Preferred: 8000K. If not, please change them so that they read the above values.
Running Image Express
To run Image Express, simply double-click on the “IE Pro 2.17 Demo” icon. We have included a simple demo datafile containing 10 images. You may add your own images to this datafile if you wish (NB the demo datafile will accept a total of 50 images).
Basic Operating Instructions
To view all images in the database, enter the symbol “@” into the FILE NAME window and press Enter. Press the RIGHT and LEFT ARROW to scroll to the next/previous screen.
To view an image in Preview mode, double-click on its thumbnail or click on the “Quad Arrow” button. To return to thumbnail mode, click on the ‘Quad Arrow” button again. Press the RIGHT and LEFT ARROW to scroll to the next/previous screen.
Now search for images using the multi-level catalogue. Click on the CATALOGUE SEARCH button. The Level 1 catalogue options (Sport and Transport) will appear in the CATALOGUE LIST window. Click on “Transport” - note that your catalogue selection is listed in the YOUR SELECTION window. If you click on FIND at this point, you will return all images that have been classified as “Transport” (there are ten).
To refine your search further, double-click on the “Transport” category in the CATALOGUE LIST window. This will reveal the Level 2 options beneath “Transport” (ie Aircraft, Boats, Dragsters, Motor Bikes, Racing Cars, Sports Cars, Trucks). Click on "Motor Bikes" and then click on FIND. This will return two images that have been categorised as Transport / Motor Bikes. Follow the same procedure to delve deeper into the catalogue.
To return to the previous level in the catalogue, click once inside the YOUR SELECTION window.
An alternative method of searching is to enter the filename (or part thereof) of the image you are searching for. To try this out, enter the word “Aircraft” into the FILENAME window and click on Search. Three images should be returned: “Aircraft Display 1” , “Aircraft Display 2, and “Aircraft Display 3” (note that the word “Aircraft” appears in the title of all three images).
Another way of searching is to enter the Job Reference Number (or part thereof) for the images you are searching for. For example, enter “002” into the JOB REF NO window and click on Search. Image Express will return 2 images that relate to “Job Number 002”.
To get information about an image, click on its thumbnail and then click on the INFORM button. The Inform window will show the image’s File Name, Job Ref No, Originator, Creation Date, and Caption.
One of the main reasons for using Image Express is so that you can access your digital images easily. It is possible to download both high and low resolution images using Image Express. Note: The demo database does not have any high resolution images linked to the database. However, the process is the same as for downloading low resolution images, as follows:
First create a folder on the desktop of your machine called “Downloaded Images” or something similar. Go back into Image Express and click on the DELIVER button. Click on the thumbnail of an image that you wish to download, then click on the ADD TO LIST button. This will add the image to the Download List. Add more images to the Download List in the same way, if you wish. To download the image(s), click on the DOWNLOAD FPO button and select the “Downloaded Images” folder that you created earlier. (NB FPO means “For Placement Only” and refers to the fact that the image will be of low resolution, suitable for placement into Quark or other page layout software). Image Express will then automatically drop a copy of the selected image(s) into your “Downloaded Images” folder. A text file is also copied into the “Download Folder” and gives the Caption Text, the Image File Name, Job Ref No, and the name of the Originator, all relating to the image downloaded of course.
To access the “back-end” of the database, click on “Organise/Media”. This will reveal the image records contained within the demo database. Double-click any image record to view its details. You are free to change or add to any of the following data fields: File Name, Job Ref No, Originator, Caption, or Catalogue Entry. Note: the File Location window records the location of any high resolution file that may be linked to the image record. This information is used by Image Express when downloading high resolution image files, however in this demo database, the File Location window is blank.
Additional images may be added to the demo database (up to a limit of 50 records). The easiest way do this is to use the Load Media function. Before we do this, you should copy the image files you wish to load into a folder, called “Images” for example. Images should be in one of the following formats: PICT or EPS (NB the full version of Image Express can automatically load TIFF and PCD image formats also).
Return to Image Express and click on Organise / Media to reveal the Media Records window. Then click on Organise / Load Media. Select the folder that contains the image files, and let Image Express do the rest. After loading the images, go into each new record and enter your image data.
To return to the Main User Interface, click on Gallery / View.
That should be sufficient to get you going.
